Very Bright

For Jon on Father's Day

Every bright and beautiful thing here and now should not be confused as the Source of brightness or beauty. Rather, it should serve as a witness to the Origin of its shine, as a vibrant countryside landscape is only bursting with color because the sun is out—or as well-moisturized melanin boasts a deep, rich glow at golden hour.

So it’s our happy duty to not only admire what is good and true and beautiful here and now; we are to go beyond admiration and into the compounding joy of following that ray of light from the created thing back to its Creator, as back to the sun. For all that is bright is lit by Him.

And you, dear love, are very bright.
