This year during Holy Week I participated in my first silent retreat. I actually think I have more to say about that, but I want to share what one guy shared as the retreat came to a close.
He said he had confessed to God, “Lord, sometimes I have a hard time trusting you.”
And he sensed God responded, “Sometimes?”
We all chuckled as he said this because we assumed the tonality of “Sometimes?” was one of mild sarcasm (at least, I assumed that).
But then he said he was so surprised to find that the tone in God’s voice was one of delight rather than scoffing, mocking, or accusing. He sensed God was thrilled that his child would trust Him, even “sometimes.”
“Sometimes” is something God rejoices in. And I think that’s incredible.
Hey, did you know I wrote a book? (Well, a few technically!)
My latest book is my first book for grown-ups. It’s called Love Has a Story (Moody Publishers, 2024), and I think you should read the first two chapters to see if you want to get it for yourself or a friend (here’s chapter one and here’s chapter two). :)
Be on the lookout for news about my first fiction book, a novel-in-verse set to release in 2027 with InterVarsity Press. Can’t wait to tell you all about it!
